A little bit of Friuli

If you have time to discover this incredible region, here you find the right itinerary: Pordenone, Udine, Cividale and the Dolomites are its protagonist.

Programma giornaliero

This tour is a real panoramic journey over Friuli Venezia Giulia, that starts with the visit of Sesto al Reghena, a town part of the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”, and its wonderful Benedictine abbey dating back to the nineteenth century. Don’t miss the visit of the crypt, where the Santa Anastasia urn is preserved, a wonderful monument of Langobardic age; of the knightly cycle painted on the outer walls, unusual for a church; and of the universal judgment of the entrance. Lunch in a local restaurant and in the afternoon we visit Portogruaro, a pretty town where you can breathe a pleasant Venetian air. The small town, situated on the right side of the Lemene river, has elegant palaces that reminds you of the noble architectures of the “Canal Grande”. A monument not to be missed is the Town Hall, that will amaze you with its originality, and many san Marco lions (Venice powerful symbol) spread around the town. Dinner and overnight.

This day has Udine as protagonist. The city, considered the capital city of Friuli, is full of historical monuments and important architectonical jewels. The famous painter Tiepolo worked here for many years, leaving many masterpieces in the churches of the town. The Old Town is a real gem, dominated by the castle. We have lunch in Cividale and in the afternoon we visit this pretty town: the emblem of the city is “Il Ponte del Diavolo”- the Devil’s Bridge, that offers an amazing view of the Natisone river. Dinner and overnight.

The day is dedicated to the awesome Dolomiti Friulane (Friulian Dolomites), that present unspoilt views and that show us the deep beauty of nature. In the morning we visit the Vajont dam, notorious because of the 1963 disaster. There, among the Friulian Dolomites, everything seems suspended in the past, stopped in that tragic moment when so many people lost their lives. Then we can visit the ghost villages of Erto e Casso to reach the magical lake of Barcis, a natural jewel not to be missed. Return to the Hotel and overnight.

We continue the tour to discover the Friulian mountains, and today we visit Sauris, a mountain place next to the famous lake that bears the same name. This alpine Village is situated between 1000 and 1400 meters high and is the highest in the whole region. We enjoy a delicious lunch in this town and in the afternoon we visit a ham store and a brewery, that produce high quality products.

The last day dedicated to discover Friuli includes Pordenone, the so-called “painted town”, that will amaze you due to its frescoed palaces, its churches and its painted squares. A sweet break with chocolate will show you one of the most famous homemade chocolate production in the area, with the tasting of delicious pralines. A typical lunch in a local restaurant will follow, and in the afternoon the tour ends with a tasting of Friulian wines in a winery located in a beautiful place.
