From Leonardo to Picasso. A Comics journey into the History of Art” is an interactive experience : you will meet Leonardo dealing with an irriverent Monna Lisa, you will look at Van Gogh standing in front of his well known sunflowers, and you will admire iconic works such as “The Wave”, painted by Hokusai.

Gradimir Smudja. From Leonardo to Picasso. A Comics’ Journey into the History of Art

The whole exhibition is created by Gradimir Smudja, who is a painter, illustrator and cartoonist, but above all a real talented artist. The main characteristics of his peculiar style are the attention to details,a very strong irony and a great versatility. The Exhibition hosts works coming from Smudja illustrated book entitled “Au fil de l’art”, that leads us to a trip along the most relevant centuries of European art. The book depicts the most famous and renowed artists of all times, such as Leonardo, Michelangelo, Dürer, Velasquez, Goya, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec and others. Smudja paints them in a very peculiar way, alternating fictional/surreal scenes to detailed rappresentations without loosing his fine irony, that makes the whole exhibition much more enjoyable and the artists more “humans”.

Besides, if you look at the works of Smudja closely, you will have the opportunity of appreciating his extraordinary technique: in fact he is able to reproduce the painting style of every artist he paints. This is an artistic journey created for children, who can learn more about Art in a funny way, but even for adults, who will appreciate the technique and the irony of the artist.

The PAFF! Pordenone

Smudja exhibition expresses in the best way the PAFF! (run by Giulio de Vita) project, that wants to become an actual “smart museum”: here art and education blend with  entertainment and fun, highlighting the comics as a real artistic and communicative form of art. The PAFF! is a unique and original project, created by a company that has been working in the Pordenone area for over 30 years, and it mostly wants to use comics language to lead the people into the world of culture, art and other topics. In fact comics is a very adaptable style, focusing in expressing itself in a direct and clear way. But the PAFF! does much more that this: it is not just exhibitions, but also didactical, recreational, and educational projects.
